Options to Fit Your Needs, Budget & Lifestyle
Traditional metal braces are our most popular braces option. Metal braces are particularly chosen among children and teens, because they have the ability to customize them with colored rubber bands on the brackets. We find patients like to change the rubber bands to correspond with holidays or just their favorite colors. Today’s metal braces are thinner and more aesthetically pleasing than they once were. We will make you proud to be a “metal mouth!”
Clear braces work just like metal braces, except they are, of course, clear! That means they aren’t going to be as noticeable on your smile. Therefore, clear braces are a more popular option for our older patients who want to straighten their teeth subtly.
Functional appliances are used to correct malalignment of the jaws. These appliances are designed for children and teens whose jawbones are still developing (adults with fixed jawbones would require surgery to fix these problems). Examples include expanders, MARA devices and Herbst appliances. If your jawbones are not growing at the same rate, or you have an under or overbite, a functional appliance can correct the issue.
After removing a patient’s braces, we require that they wear retainers. Retainers are removable appliances that help keep your beautiful new smile in place by preventing shifting! We recommend that you remove your retainers just to clean them and to eat, because the more time you wear them, the better the results. Even if you have never worn braces, we recommend you still wear retainers to ensure your teeth don’t shift as you age!
We custom-create your retainers to fit comfortably in your mouth. You can pick any color you want; we even have glitter and sticker options to make them truly your own!
Phase II treatment occurs when all of your adult teeth have erupted, and therefore braces can be placed on all teeth. Our doctors work with a wide range of both Phase I and Phase II patients!
